Townend Close care home holds picnic at beach event
Townend Close care home held a spectacular summer day for its residents by bringing the beach to their front door.
To celebrate National Picnic Month, which is held annually during July, Townend Close care home in Keighley transformed their garden into the seaside for a special Picnic at the Beach.
The care team was busy throughout the week making final touches to their beach with sand, deck chairs, beach balls, and sea-themed decorations. Some of the residents’ favourite things about the seaside, such as ice cream and candy floss, were brought right to the home where everyone was able to enjoy the beautiful weather and feeling of summer. Residents were also given picnic baskets filled with everything needed for a delicious picnic lunch.
Anne Wiseman, 83, resident at Anchor’s Townend Close care home said:
The picnic baskets were lovely and how the garden was transformed into a beach was brilliant. I had a wonderful afternoon.
Residents and the care team were also treated to entertainment provided by Leanne King, a local singer.
Sharon Mackie, Manager at Anchor’s Townend Close care home said:
The care team has worked together to come up with fantastic events for summer. As well as continuing residents’ favourite activities, such as arts and crafts and gardening, we have launched several new events such as the Picnic at the Beach day. Such events are great for our residents’ physical and mental wellbeing while being a lot of fun.
