Townend Close care home celebrates Father’s Day with family reunions

Townend Close care home was delighted they could invite the families of three dads living at the home for a special outdoor Father’s Day celebration.

Anchor’s Townend Close care home in Keighley organised three family reunions over the weekend to mark the special occasion. Ambrose Bower, 93, Bryan Harford, 91, and Kenneth Hill, 82, enjoyed quality time with their loved ones after being reunited as families. For some, this was the first time they were able to enjoy a meal altogether in over a year due to coronavirus restrictions.

Kenneth’s daughter, Susan Booth said:

I can’t say enough how lovely the time was. Having lunch with my dad on Father’s Day was perfect, especially after such a long time of not being able to get together as a family.

On the day, each family had their own private outdoor dining gazebo to allow for social distancing and so that residents could enjoy the afternoon with multiple family members. Each family was treated to a sumptuous Sunday lunch made especially for the day, followed by afternoon cream tea and desserts. 

Bryan Harford, who has lived at Anchor’s Townend Close since March 2020, was visited by his son and three daughters. 

His daughter Mary Watson said:

The day was absolutely wonderful. It was so nice to spend quality time with dad and it being Father’s Day made it extra special. It meant so much to us all.

Special celebrations are part of the ongoing programme of activities planned at Anchor’s Townend Close. The care team always organises festivities for special occasions such as birthdays, sporting events and national holidays.

Father’s Day is extra special because we get to celebrate all the amazing dads living with us. It’s wonderful that our residents and relatives are being reunited as restrictions ease and it was so heart-warming to see residents’ families enjoy a meal together and celebrate their dads in person.
