St Mary's care home residents receive COVID-19 vaccination
Residents and carers at St Mary’s care home in Holbrook have received the COVID-19 vaccination following the government’s plan to prioritise care home residents and carers as part of its vaccination roll-out programme.
All residents were offered the vaccination, which they received on-site at St Mary’s. Residents and carers alike were so excited that they sang and clapped when local health care teams arrived last week to administer the vaccines.
Carers at St Mary’s had their vaccines administered at Ipswich Hospital, arriving together at 6am to receive their jabs.
On receiving the jab, Joyce Cousins, 86 year-old resident said:
I am thrilled to have received the vaccine, it was such a joyful day for us all. My family has been worried about me and the vaccination provides peace of mine for all of us.
Kristy Smith, home manager of St Mary’s said:
Our residents and care colleagues have now received their vaccines. On the day the residents were vaccinated, the relief was palpable and we felt very strongly that history was being made. What a day to remember! The joy, the coming together and the sense that we are all now safer than we have been for the last ten months. We feel blessed.
