Sowing new seeds at Anchor
When spring comes around, we all look forward to spending more time outdoors – and what better way to do that than with a spot of gardening
Across our care homes, residents and colleagues have been busy working together growing a range of herbs, chilli plants, vegetables, and sunflowers. The vegetables and herbs will be used in delicious homecooked meals, such as parsley sauce and mint garnishes for lamb dishes. Everyone will be enjoying some fresh produce and the fruits of their labour!
Sharing his top tips for growing vegetables, Service Improvement Advisor Robin Devonshire says:
1. Vegetables grow well in pots, pick small or dwarf varieties
2. Good quality compost and watering daily is important
Des and Mary, two residents from Augusta Court also added that to encourage plants to grow you must talk to them and keep them well hydrated!
We understand that hobbies and interests are all individual to us and shape who we are as people. Now that the sun has come out, it’s a great time to be outdoors and there are so many benefits to gardening. Not just the satisfaction of having grown something from scratch, but also the physical and emotional benefits of being outdoors with other people.
