Skelton Court residents rock the day away with Status Quo celebration
Residents at Skelton Court care home near Saltburn-by-the-Sea rocked the day away to celebrate the 25th anniversary of legendary band Status Quo playing on their site.
The care home marked its first anniversary of opening by holding a celebration event on the same date that Status Quo played at the former Hollybush pub in 1999, where Skelton Court now stands.
The room that the celebration event took place in at the home has been named the Hollybush Bar and the celebration event featured Glynis Peacock from Age UK Teesside performing Status Quo favourites.
The residents were joined by members of the community who were there at the original gig, and they brought along memorabilia and photos from the night. The home was also thrilled to see the old landlord of the Hollybush Stewart Fraser who shared his memories of the night and regaled everyone with old tales of the Hollybush.
The celebration included watching news reports from the night and playing a personal message sent to the home by Status Quo found member Francis Rossi.
Status Quo played the Hollybush as part of a tour of ten pubs across the country to support the release of the then newly-released Under The Influence album, leading to one of the UK’s biggest rock bands playing for fans in intimate settings.
The pub was demolished in 2018 after being auctioned off by its former owners. Community Partnership Manager David Wood said:
We had a fantastic day to celebrate our first anniversary and to mark a legendary day in Skelton’s history. It was great to see our residents dancing with inflatable guitars.
We’ve already made some amazing memories here for the residents and this was just the latest.
