Residents at Hanover Court raise money for Guide Dogs UK
Inspired by a talk, residents at Hanover Court held a tabletop sale to raise money for Guide Dogs UK
Residents from Hanover Court in Hythe, Southampton recently hosted an event to raise money for Guide Dogs UK. Members of the local community were invited, and even a guide dog named Jive came along for the fun.
A range of items were up for sale including handmade jewellery, handbags and shoes, and home items such as teapots and bric o bac. One resident even donated a jar of sweets and guests had to guess how many sweets were in it to win.
The fundraiser was inspired by a talk given at the location about Guide Dogs UK. The talk highlighted the amount of hard work it takes to properly train a puppy into becoming a guide dog.
Speaking more about what motivated residents to organise the event, Samantha Jones, estate manager at Hanover Court said:
I feel it is important to engage our residents with talks from external organisation and other members of the community. The talk was really interesting and gave a lot of insight into what Guide Dogs UK does as an organisation.
This inspired the residents to go ahead and arrange the tabletop. It has given us a great connection with our local Guide Dog community also who will be bringing in their next puppy to see us in a few months.
A whopping £363.37 was raised for the good cause and a fantastic day was had by all including Jive – who we’re sure residents can’t wait to see again!
