How a personalised activity plan got Harry back on his feet
This month, we’re encouraging residents and colleagues to get active in whatever way they can as part of our Move Into March initiative. Activity sessions are held across our locations for residents to take part in, and colleagues are on hand to help with movement.
We’re sharing Harry’s story of how with help from the Zest team and personalised activity plans, he was able to improve his mobility.
Harry lives at The Firs care home in Felixstowe and has a neurological condition that affects his movement. His main goal was to improve his mobility and spend less time in his chair, and so our National Wellbeing Manager Helen Core created a personalised physical activity plan for Harry to follow. Initially the plan focussed on strengthening everyday movements such as reaching, pulling, and pushing.
The range of movements progressed over a 6-week period and on the third session, Harry was even able to walk to the door of his room with the help of his frame and a care assistant.
It was clear Harry exceeded his initial goal of becoming more mobile, so he set a new target of walking to the end of the hallway. He has since met that goal too and can now walk to the communal lounge with assistance and enjoy a cup of tea with other residents!
Over the weeks of working with the care team and following a personalised Zest physical activity plan, Harry has grown in confidence and enjoys having a wander around the home.
From our Zest to our BeActive programmes, there is always something going on at one of our locations. To learn more about the Move Into March initiative, or to find out how you can get involved, click here. Find out more about our Zest programme here.
