Festive fun and community spirit across our care homes
Residents and colleagues at Anchor care homes, including Hazel End, Layston Grove, and Buckingham Lodge, are embracing the festive season with joy.
From Christmas light switch-ons and choir practice to decorating trees, baking treats, and attending local parties, each activity is bringing residents together with their communities, creating laughter, memories, and a true sense of festive spirit.
The annual tradition of the Christmas light switch-on is a much-loved moment in the lead-up to Christmas, bringing joy to residents and the local community. This year, Cllr Duncan Wallace, the Mayor of Buntingford, officially switched on the Christmas lights at Layston Grove - marking a memorable moment for residents and the community alike. Local singer Olivia from Musical Memories performed some Christmas classics in celebration, and the home even had a visit from Father Christmas himself.
A standout highlight so far was the invitation to the St Edmund’s College Christmas Party, where residents enjoyed a delicious feast, music from the Army Cadets, and an impressive display of magic tricks. And in History Club, the group delved into the fascinating origins and traditions behind all things Christmassy, adding a thoughtful and nostalgic touch to the festivities.
Vilawan Hawkes, Home Manager at Layston Grove, says:
The annual tradition of the light switch-on was so spectacular this year, marked even more special with a visit from The Mayor of Buntingford and some incredible entertainment. It was wonderful to see how the occasion brought everyone together to celebrate and create new memories. Thank you so much to everyone who was involved!
John, resident at Layston Grove, says:
The Christmas activities this year have been spectacular. There’s been so much variety, and something different to look forward to every day! From the choir practice to the party at St Edmund’s, it’s all been wonderful and really put me in the festive spirit.
