Clayburn Court care home delights in virtual Christmas cake competition

Residents at Clayburn Court care home have kicked off the holiday season with a virtual Christmas cake competition, which saw their very best cake decorators take on other care homes in the region in a suitably festive challenge. 

The competition is one of many virtual activities organised by Anchor Hanover in an effort to make sure residents can stay connected with others outside the home over the holidays. Additional activities include virtual pantomimes, singalongs and quizzes. 

Clayburn Court resident, Gillian Denton, 84, said:

Christmas is a very special time of year. It reminds me of all the fun I used to have at home having turkey whilst pulling the Christmas crackers and making a noise and just being merry. I’ve always enjoyed the holidays and appreciate how hard everyone at Clayburn Court works to make it a joyful time of year for all of us here. I also enjoy being with my sister in the care home.

Although current circumstances have made the lead up to Christmas unusual, the festive activities were organised as a way of making sure that residents at Clayburn Court could still enjoy this special time of year.

Jacqualine Nzara, Manager of Clayburn Court, said:

Activities such as baking and carol singing are favourites for our residents every year. I am so happy we can create a Christmas that is as normal as possible for our residents. It was nice to have the Christmas cake competition as a way of boosting holiday cheer. We’re also enjoying other activities such as movie nights, crafts and festive drinks.
