Building connections through a love of books
In August we launched our Be Connected Book Club to bring residents and colleagues together through shared interests
Our Be Connected Book Club was launched in August 2022 with the aim to bring residents and colleagues together who have a passion for books. It is an opportunity for them to immerse themselves into different characters when reading a novel, speak to others to gain their interpretation of the book and be part of a book loving community.
Books read by the Book Club so far
So far, two sessions have been held and two books have been read, including Queen Bee by Jane Fallon and Not a Happy Family: A Novel by Shari Lapena. Books are sometimes chosen according to theme, so in October The Colour Purple was chosen in recognition of Black History Month.
Hilary Stelling is one member of the book club. Speaking of her love of reading and favourite author, she said:
Due to my arthritis, I can't hold a book, I read on my phone via playbooks. I have only just found Anton's books. They are really well written. I can imagine the main male character as Anton. Very suave and sophisticated. I am only onto chapter 3 so I can't really give a full review. All will say is it's a good read.
The book club is part of the Be Connected initiative which falls under the wider Be Well umbrella. Be Well is focussed on resident wellbeing; helping them keep active, learn new skills, and meet new people. To learn more about the Be Well initiative, visit here.
