Anchor takes part in Get Online Week 2024
Get Online Week is Good Things Foundation's annual digital inclusion campaign. It is the largest in the UK and has been held every year since 2007 in October. In 2024 Get Online Week took place between October 14 – 20.
Digital inclusion efforts are essential because they ensure that everyone, regardless of background, has access to the technology and digital skills needed to fully participate in today’s society. Our Be Digital programme provides support to Anchor residents wanting to learn more about the digital space. We have a databank of Digital Volunteers available to support residents, as well as a range of learning resources available so our residents can make the most of the Internet and all it has to offer..
During Get Online Week, we joined hundreds of other organisations by organising events. We ran “Learn My Way” workshops to raise awareness of the free online learning platform and details of how to sign up. We also hosted a Digital Fayre on Wednesday 16 October where we had an incredible time, sharing valuable insights from:
- Louise Rumble and Thom Harmsworth presenting on Online Safety
- Heather, Elizabeth and Gurdeep from the Digital Storytelling Group on how to share your memories through videos
- Chris Grant from Ability net provided information on the free Digital services they provide, finishing off with a great technology demonstration
- The Wifinity Engagement Team spoke about our Connected Properties project and the WiFi installation rollout across Anchor properties
Heather Rowell, an Anchor resident, said about the Digital Storytelling Group:
To me it has a wonderful feeling when you engage with others to harness the power of the digital world to make life better for others. So, by speaking on behalf of the Digital Storytelling Group I wanted to show this through sharing stories, growing skills and self-esteem alongside exploring our creativity.
Our Be Digital programme aims to support and upskill residents by providing resources, equipment and connectivity to those who need it most so that no one is left behind in our increasingly digital world. To learn more about the programme, click here.
