Anchor celebrates structural completion ceremony for regeneration project in Hackney
This week, Anchor and delivery partner, award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group, officially celebrated laying its golden brick at Goldfinch Point, Newnton Close, located just off Seven Sisters Road in Hackney.
Attended by the Mayor of Hackney, Councillor Caroline Woodley, Anchor Chief Executive Sarah Jones and local councillors, the event marked the topping out of construction for our fourth regeneration project in the London Borough of Hackney. Supported by the Greater London Authority (GLA) and Hackney Council, the redevelopment will be 100% affordable in tenure for people aged over 55.
Goldfinch Point will offer 76 one and two bedroom apartments for rent and Older Persons Shared Ownership. The new development will provide a 168% uplift in affordable housing compared to the previous housing on-site and mindfully designed with the lifestyle needs of people aged over 55.
As a result of prioritising sustainability in the design process, it is estimated the new development will achieve 76% reduction in Co2, with the Urban Greening Factor more than doubling, and a 46% increase in biodiversity net gain in comparison to the existing site.
Nick Hodgskin, Head of Regeneration at Anchor said:
It’s fantastic to celebrate this exciting step with our delivery partners Hill, and the GLA and Hackney Council who have provided invaluable support that has made this project a reality. We believe this development will offer much-needed affordable options for those in Hackney looking for a new home in their later life.
This is another crucial step towards Anchor delivering an average of 500 homes a year over a rolling 10-year period, with at least 70% of those homes being for social rent, and we’re looking forward to seeing this development come to life and support residents to enjoy later life.
Simon Trice, Managing Director at The Hill Group commented:
We are thrilled to be working with Anchor on this exciting new regeneration project, with our history of successful work as their delivery partner. At Hill, we utilise our extensive experience to provide energy efficient homes with a range of local amenities, helping to create a lasting community.
The mayor of Hackney, Councillor Caroline Woodley said:
At a time when affordable housing is a national priority, it is excellent to witness this investment in Hackney and the further commitment to increasing the sustainability of the site.
I’d like to thank Anchor and Hill for inviting me to celebrate the topping out ceremony with them and look forward to seeing the development provide housing for older people in our local community.
Anchor’s new independent living scheme will provide 40 apartments for rent and 36 for shared ownership, with quality green and open spaces for residents to enjoy, and communal lounge facilities. Goldfinch Point will offer easy access to amenities and transport links, supporting residents in their enjoyment of later living. For more information please click here.
