Liverpool care homes host their very own Eurovision
To celebrate Eurovision coming to Liverpool this weekend, residents and team members from care homes around Liverpool and the Merseyside area put on their very own show.
Widnes Hall, Hurst Park, Upton Grange, Sandstones, Montrose Hall, Heyberry House, Birkenhead Court and Thomas Henshaw Court care homes came together for a grand old night of singing and Eurovision fun!
The party was held at the Poulton Victoria Sports & Social Club in Wallasey, with each home putting on a performance from the care team and sing alongs from residents with every performance judged to find the overall winner.
Entries included Eurovision classics like Abba’s Waterloo, performed by residents from Hurst Park, alongside some all-time favourites such as Greased Lightnin’ put on by the Sandstones care team and Dame Vera Lynn’s Wish Me Luck as You Wave Me Goodbye from the residents at Upton Grange. After all the performances, everyone came together for one last fantastic finale. Singing, what else would it be, Sweet Caroline!
The performances were enjoyed by relatives, loved ones and colleagues! Along with the songs, attendees enjoyed a Eurovision themed buffet and drinks. In between the performances, everyone was entertained by local singer Mark Birch. While all the acts were spectacular, in the end there could only be one winner, Heyberry House in Birkenhead.
Everyone was delighted by all the fun. Mo Cunningham, from Heyberry House, said:
What an absolute laugh that was! It was great to see everyone singing and dancing along and I loved performing Club Tropicano. I’ve always been a fan of Eurovision so getting a chance to take part in our own Eurovision was an absolute delight!
Carrie Browne, District Manager, who organised the event, said:
I’m so overjoyed it’s all come together! Everyone worked really hard to put on such an amazing show!
We had a really great time and I’m delighted we could pay tribute to Eurovision with such a wonderful competition of our own! This is just one of many events we’ve got planned this summer for all our residents and colleagues to enjoy.
