Leeds Resident to take part in The Great Tommy Sleep Out

Martin Clifford age 59, who has lived at Headingley Court retirement scheme in Leeds for one year, will be taking part in The Great Tommy Sleep Out, organised by the Royal British Legion Industries, on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 March.  

The event will see Martin, and other volunteers across the nation, sleeping outdoors to raise awareness and money for veterans of the Armed Forces who are currently homeless. Martin, who has been declared medically fit for the venture, will spend 11 hours on both nights sleeping outside by the entranceway to Headingley Court. 

Martin has so far raised £205 thanks to generous donations from members of the public and his neighbours. He said:

Nobody who’s served their country should have to spend their nights on the streets. Sadly, it is an all-too-common occurrence and one that needs greater awareness.  

I hope I can raise some awareness of this issue and raise some money to help our heroes. I’d like to say a big thank you to the team at Headingley Court for letting me do this. I’ve already received so many kind donations from my fellow residents and the management team here and I really appreciate their support!

The Great Tommy Sleep Out which supports veterans who have been left homeless is a wonderful cause. All of Martin’s neighbours and friends here have been really supportive of Martin when they found out what he plans to do.
