Father Christmas and his elves switch on lights at Tolson Grange care home
Father Christmas, Mrs Claus and their elves switched on the lights at a care home in Huddersfield on Thursday (5 December).
Staff from care home Tolson Grange in Coach House Drive, Dalton, dressed up for the day before handing out chocolates to residents and turning on the home’s Christmas lights.
More than 100 care homes across the country run by charity Anchor turned on their Christmas lights on Thursday as part of its Brighten Up Your Local Community event.
Tolson Grange Deputy Manager Alison Mosley said the residents love Christmas and meeting Father Christmas, Mrs Claus and their elves make their day.
She said: “All of Anchor’s care homes across the country turn on their Christmas lights on the same day as part of our national campaign to brighten up our local community. It’s such a great event for our residents to be involved in as they love to get around the tree and sing carols.
“It’s important to organise meaningful activities for our residents as these boost their mental and physical well-being as well as being fun!”
Resident Harold Goodison, 90, who has lived at Tolson Grange for four years, said he was looking forward to seeing their special visitors. He said: “It’s not every day that you get a present from Father Christmas and his elves in person. It’s a lovely way to start the Christmas celebrations at Tolson Grange.
“There are so many interesting things to do here. There is always something different going on every day. I particularly enjoy games afternoon, especially dominoes.
