Wharfeside care home to open its doors to local community for Christmas

The care team and residents at Wharfeside care home in Otley are inviting older people to join in their Christmas Day celebrations.

The 66 bed care home in West Yorkshire is welcoming in any older person in the community who face the prospect of spending Christmas Day alone. Anchor’s Community Partnership Manager David Wood said:

Opening the doors of our care homes to people who would welcome company on Christmas Day is something we have traditionally done across the north of England.

However, the pandemic has meant we have had to put this on hold for the last three or four years.

We know that people can feel very isolated at Christmas and everyone at Wharfeside is delighted to provide warm and welcoming company to anyone who needs it. We are very sociable and we don’t see why anyone should be alone on Christmas Day.

We always make a huge effort for our residents at Christmas because we know some of them don’t have anyone else and we are their family.

So we are more than happy to invite people in to join us and celebrate.
