Mayflower Court concludes week of Jubilee celebrations
Residents at Mayflower Court care home have enjoyed a week of celebrations in honour of the Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Residents enjoyed a variety of fun activities over the past week to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.
Residents and the team enjoyed Jubilee-themed lunches and treats on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June. On the weekend of the Jubilee, Mayflower Court care home invited members of the local community to join them to celebrate. The party included a visit from Ems Farm petting zoo and a live performance by local soprano musician Claire Rutter. Residents also enjoyed playing a variety of fun Jubilee activities such as a ‘Selfie with the Queen’ and carnival games like a ‘Royal Hook a Duck’.
The celebrations culminated with a special celebration on Friday 10 June when the team at Mayflower Court buried a special time capsule in the home’s garden. The capsule contained a selection of objects chosen by residents to mark the special occasion and buried for discovery in the future! Naturally, the burial of the time capsule was celebrated with another fun garden party for the residents.
Resident Joyce Hillier, who has lived at Mayflower Court for four years said:
I can’t believe it’s been 70 years since Her Majesty became Queen, I remember her Coronation like it was yesterday! I didn’t watch it as we didn’t have a TV, but we listened to it on the radio. I was heavily pregnant with my second daughter. My first daughter, Barbra who was four at the time, attended a party at the Guild Hall to mark the royal celebration!
Sam Henderson, Manager of Mayflower Court, added:
It’s lovely that we were able to celebrate such a historic occasion with our residents and bring friends, family and the local community together for it. Everyone at Mayflower Court loved sharing their memories and celebrating Her Majesty The Queen’s reign!
We’re so happy to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee - even though she’s royalty, we all feel like we’ve grown up with her. We always love celebrating special events and occasions at Mayflower Court and supplying a wide variety of meaningful activities as they help our residents’ wellbeing and mental health.
Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
