‘Look at that!’ Eric Morecambe House celebrates comedy legend’s 100th birthday

Eric Morecambe House care home celebrated the 100th birthday of comedy legend and the home’s namesake, Eric Morecambe, with a special day of entertainment, laughter and reminiscence.

Residents, colleagues, family and friends came together to honour one of Morecambe’s most beloved figures, celebrating a century of joy and the lasting legacy of one of Britain’s best-loved entertainers.

The celebrations began with a performance from local school Morecambe Bay Academy, whose pupils entertained residents with a comedy-inspired showcase in tribute to Eric Morecambe. After lunch, entertainer Ashleigh Wood took to the stage, with residents laughing, singing along and enjoying a selection of classic songs.

As the day drew to a close, there was only one question left to ask residents and guests alike: “What do you think of it so far?”

Audrey, resident at Eric Morecambe House and former variety performer who worked alongside Eric Morecambe himself, said:

I remember watching Morecambe and Wise in their heyday - the comedy was so original, I can still recall some of their best bits even now. With it being such a special anniversary for Eric Morecambe, we were all delighted to take part in the day and reminiscence on the legacy of such a great British entertainer.

Celebrating our home’s namesake was such a delight for us all, with Eric not just being so important to the town of Morecambe but to our residents as well. At the event, there was good food, great company and lots of smiles – which we’re sure Eric would have loved.
