Linwood care home Christmas tree decorated by local community

Residents and carers at the Thames Ditton care home have thanked members of the public for helping to decorate the care home’s Christmas Tree.

Staff from Anchor’s Linwood care home on Mercer Close put up a Christmas tree in front of their entrance and invited members of the public to help put up decorations on the tree to kickstart the Christmas period.

Although current circumstances have prevented Linwood from partaking in their usual Christmas time communal activities, the Christmas tree decoration was organised by Anchor Hanover as a way of ensuring that Linwood could still have some community interaction while ensuring everyone remained safe.

So last week, members of the public, wearing PPE and following social distancing guidelines, visited Linwood at certain times during the day to add decorations to the tree. At 5 pm, residents were then treated to a spectacle of the new tree being lit up at the official Christmas lighting ceremony. 

Resident Rocchina Morris, 83, said how much she enjoyed seeing the tree with its new decorations: 

It was lovely to see the lights come on and the tree looks absolutely beautiful! It’s a shame we haven’t been able to celebrate Christmas in the usual way but it’s still very nice to see the families and friends come over to help us decorate our tree with their very own decorations! I thoroughly enjoyed it. The very small things make a big difference.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to help decorate our Christmas tree, it was a lovely occasion and showed that despite the current challenges we can still celebrate in our own way.
