61 homes in Scarborough benefit from energy efficiency measures
We have continued to improve the energy efficiency of our socially rented homes. In partnership with our framework contractors Equans, 61 properties in Scarborough are the latest housing locations to benefit from energy efficiency measures including triple glazed windows and new high heat retention storage heaters.
The improvements at Hanover Court in Scarborough have increased the energy performance of the homes to a ‘C’ rating. This has been achieved following a successful bid for SHDF funding that we submitted as part of the Greener Futures Partnership, a group of like-minded housing associations who have come together to tackle the long-term decarbonisation challenge.
We secured £2.2 million of SHDF funding and are using this to deliver energy efficiency works to 341 rented properties that are below an Energy Performance Certificate’ rating of C.
Brian Corcoran, a resident at Hanover Court who has lived there for five years said:
I’m over the moon. I can’t believe how fast the work was completed. I’ve felt a huge difference with the new windows, so much warmer and less noise.
Liz Davenport, Property Sustainability Director at Anchor, said:
As part of Anchor’s long term sustainability strategy and in line with Government targets, we need to ensure all our rented properties reach an ‘Energy Performance Certificate’ of C or above by 2030.
This programme of works plays a key role in delivering on net zero carbon targets and reducing carbon emissions.
Energy efficiency works continue across the country and we are aiming to complete works at four Anchor locations in the Northwest and Midlands regions, before March 2025.
Neil Warburton, Director of Regeneration and Sustainability at Equans, said:
I’m really pleased to see how Equans and Anchor have been working in partnership on this scheme, to deliver benefits for residents and the environment. Our dedicated Resident Liaison team has worked tirelessly to ensure that all those whose homes are being worked on are comfortable and always informed. Thanks to the SHDF and true collaboration between all parties, residents such as Brian are benefitting from more efficient and more comfortable homes for years to come.
Our vision for a sustainable future
Anchor's Sustainability Strategy is focused on protecting the environment, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting sustainable lifestyles to limit the effects of climate change on current and future generations.
