Apprenticeships at Anchor: Emma’s Story
First thing’s first, what is an Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are a great way to kickstart your career and give your career a boost. They’re nationally recognised programmes, where you’ll combine work and study by mixing on-the-job training with one-to-one learning sessions delivered in your workplace.
There are a number of apprenticeship options available depending on your job role and level of experience, from Level 2 for those new to a role through to Level 7 for those with a higher level of experience. You’ll have a dedicated tutor to support you throughout the programme to help you gain a qualification which will give your career aspirations a boost.
The best way for us to share the success of our apprentice programme is to give real life case studies from our colleagues. So, let’s meet Emma and hear her apprenticeship story…
Name: Emma
Job Title: Bank Team Leader & Head Housekeeper
Apprenticeship Programme: BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship
Why did you choose an apprenticeship at Anchor?
I chose to do this apprenticeship in order to have a better understanding around leading a team, understanding the key legislations, codes of practice and also to better myself in my career and future ahead at Anchor.
What have you learnt as an apprentice?
I have gained more of an understanding of the importance of communication and how to overcome communication barriers. I have also been able to adapt my own behaviours by being a little more patient and thinking more outside the box rather than just what is inside.
What opportunities are available to apprentices?
It creates many opportunities to those who are in need of gaining skills and qualifications for their own job role but also to self-grow as a person. You learn so much more about yourself and what you need to climb up that ladder.
What made you choose to work in care?
I am from a caring natured family and I always like to give back to the community and those of a grand age that once looked after us. Care begins from the heart once you have a caring heart everything else naturally falls into one.
Where do you hope to be in your career after your apprenticeship?
I hope to continue being a Team Leader here at Simon Marks Court! I also hope that my experiences can support others.
Fun fact: Over 70% of Apprentices are offered a permanent role at Anchor upon completion of their apprenticeship.
Emma’s apprenticeship journey is a great example of how an experienced colleague never stops learning and growing, apprenticeships aren’t just for beginners! They’re for anyone who wants to learn and progress in their career. Find out more about our apprenticeship offerings here.
