Wharfeside holds party for 100-year-old resident
Charles Roy Stonell, who moved into Wharfeside care home recently, made the perfect backdrop for him to blow out his birthday candles.
Charles enjoyed a special birthday cake and tea party with his family and the team at Wharfeside. To top off the celebrations, Charles also received the traditional 100th birthday telegram from his namesake, King Charles III!
Grandfather of four grandchildren, Charles was born in Charlton and served in the RAF as a ground crew technician during the war. After the war, he worked as a coppersmith sheet maker.
Louise Bulcock, Manager of Wharfeside care home said: Charlie is a lovely person and we’re all delighted to be celebrating his 100th birthday! He’s a real character and always likes taking part in activities with us. His favourite activities are cocktail making and gardening!
When asked about his secret to a long life, Charles said the secret to a long life is to drink well, it grounds you. I won’t say anything else though, as it’s a secret! I’m very proud of my family though, especially my grandson who works at Windsor Castle!
