Resident from Lakehead Court calls on community to get moving

This spring, Anchor is encouraging the nation to join in and get active.

Mary Wood, a 96 year old resident who has lived at Lakehead Court retirement scheme in Keswick, for over six years walks around one to two miles every day. Mary shares how much joy it brings her to get outdoors and just get moving.

She says:

I walk regardless of the weather and what time of year it is, but I especially love walking in spring and summer mainly to see the beautiful scenery and spring flowers. I am so looking forward to doing that this year as the warmer season approaches.

Our residents and colleagues, like Mary, have already been showing the nation how it’s done through our inclusive #MoveIntoMarch initiative. Having clocked up an impressive 1,397 hours of activity during March by finding fun ways to get active – from our own Zest and Be Active workout series to sociable walks and talks.

Katherine Lockyer, Manager at Lakehead Court retirement scheme, says:

Many of our residents find joy in moving and staying active, and Mary’s love of walking shows us how much happiness it can bring, especially when paired with getting outside. It’s also a great example of how many benefits it can have both physically and mentally.

At Anchor, we support our residents to enjoy movement in later life and see the benefits of it every day and this spring we’re encouraging the public to join in!
