Anchor’s response to the Government’s announcement on social care funding and an independent commission on adult social care
Anchor’s Chief Executive Sarah Jones has responded to the Government’s announcement this morning on social care funding and an independent commission on adult social care.
Sarah said today:
Meaningful reform of social care is long overdue, and we welcome the intent to achieve cross-party agreement to finally address an issue affecting growing numbers of some of the most vulnerable people in the country.
We are pleased to see the ongoing commitment to a National Care Service so people can live independently for as long as possible with the right support. This can release much needed capacity for the NHS and improve the lives of older people and we stand ready to support Baroness Casey and the work of the independent commission.
As England’s largest not for profit provider of housing and care for older people, Anchor is ideally placed to draw on the experience of residents and colleagues so the right interventions can benefit individuals and wider society. Any surplus generated by Anchor is reinvested for the benefit of people receiving our care and support, in our workforce, technology, buildings maintenance and innovation, and we understand the positive impact that investment can have.
In the meantime, organisations supporting older and vulnerable people are facing significant financial challenges which may reduce our capacity to help just when demand is growing. It is therefore vital that short term steps are taken to alleviate the crisis while the commission does its essential work.
