Care home staff and residents at Wetherby Manor celebrate VE day
Staff from a Wetherby care home have organised a party for their older residents to mark VE Day on Friday 8 May.
The team at Anchor’s Wetherby Manor in St James Street will be dressed in red, white and blue during the party to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe.
The home’s catering team have been busy making cakes with Union Jack designs while staff have put up red, white and blue bunting around the home for the day. Some of the residents living with dementia have also decorated some of the biscuits.
Residents will enjoy many activities on the day, including a pub quiz, cake decorating sessions, and a sing-a-long of war time songs.
Judith Scurr, Manager of Wetherby Manor, said: “It is important to honour and remember all those who fought in previous wars as a way to thank them for their courage. The older people we work with have set the foundation for future generations, and it’s thanks to them that we can enjoy the freedoms we have. The party will be a lot of fun and provoke many memories of VE Day.”
