The Anchor Games

2024

To celebrate the array of sporting events that take place each summer we’re hosting our very own Anchor Games. An opportunity for residents and colleagues across the country to take part in sporting activities and promote physical wellbeing.

Sport is a vital part of a fulfilled life for many people. As well as being a great way to exercise both the body and mind, sport provides opportunities to spend shared time with other people, strengthens our sense of community and can be a real focal point for joy.

Activities designed for anyone at any level Wheelchair racing

Activities have been carefully planned so that residents of any activity level or ability across our care homes and housing locations can participate.

Residents living at our care homes will have the opportunity to take part in Anchor Games inspired video exercise classes hosted by Anchor Zest - our exciting and fun physical activity programme. Designed to be suitable for all needs and abilities, Zest sessions feature a mix of active routines, dance moves, mobility work, and gentle moving and stretching. As part of Anchor Games residents will be enjoying diverse routines including 'Zest with a twist' and 'Zest Box-It' inspired by seated boxing and martial arts. The fun sessions are all made available on the Zest wellbeing YouTube channel ensuring residents can tune in and follow along in their own time.

Tabletop games and trips to local sports venues will also be organised, with care homes involving local schools and creating opportunities for intergenerational collaboration.

Our live Be Active exercise classes, which take place three times at week on Zoom, will also offer residents opportunities to improve their strength, co-ordination and balance and offer ideas on small changes that can be made to build more movement into our everyday lives and existing routines.

Reinforcing bonds and sharing in successes

We encourage residents and colleagues to get involved in as many activities as possible throughout the year. Being outdoors, getting active and taking part in sports are beneficial for our wellbeing in so many ways. Not only do these activities increase physical and mental health, but they also reinforce bonds between people through teamwork and the sharing of successes. We are excited to share updates on the fun ways people across the organisation celebrate the Anchor Games together this month.

You can follow along with our sporting successes by searching for the hashtag #AnchorGames on X and Facebook.
