Valerie’s Story

Valerie sadly lost her husband of 40 years in 2023. Her children are now all grown up with families of their own and she was finding it hard to maintain her home and do her shopping. They wanted to know if Valerie could get a little bit of extra help without going into a care home.

But after speaking with an Anchor Location Manager and visiting, Valerie’s daughter felt reassured. Valerie would be able to move into her own flat, participate in activities and make new friends. Most importantly, she could access additional support when needed all while maintaining her independence. Valerie’s family are overjoyed to see her so happy and say she often joins in on the activities, gets help with cleaning her flat and shopping. Her daughter says, “It’s been the best thing for mum, and it always feels like home when we visit."

You’ll have the independence of living in your own flat, but with the added benefit of care and support from an on-site team of professionals when you need it.

What types of care and support can be offered?

A range of flexible services are available to help you maintain your independence at Anchor's extra care rented housing locations. These may include catering services, personal care, housing-related support and wellbeing services.

You decide the type and level of support that suits your lifestyle and your needs as they change.

Staff are on-site 24-hours a day and you'll have access to an emergency call service for added reassurance. Plus, a full-time manager is based at each location to help with maintaining your home and managing your tenancy.

What facilities can I expect?

Depending on location, you'll find Anchor's housing with extra care developments can feature shared lounges, restaurants or cafes, hairdressers, therapy rooms, shops, guest rooms for visiting friends and family, and communal gardens for exercising and gardening.

Whatever the facilities, you'll find our housing with extra care locations are thriving communities. Each offers a variety of social activities to take part in as and when you wish and active links with the local community, including specialised interest groups and services.

What will my home be like?

All of our properties are self-contained, with their own front door, offering the privacy and independence you expect.

Your home will have a bathroom, kitchen with fully-fitted cupboards, ample storage space, lounge and bedroom areas. It will be easy to maintain and you will have the freedom to decorate and furnish it as you wish.

Our housing with extra care locations are fully wheelchair accessible including walk-in showers and lifts to upper floors.

For added peace of mind, each of our properties are also fitted with a 24-hour emergency call and secure door entry system.

What else should I know?

We have extra care housing locations ranging in size across the country, offering you choice wherever you would like to live.

Our rented housing with extra care is affordable, with most services eligible for housing benefit, and the majority of our properties are rented on an assured tenancy giving you security.
