Manor house Knaresborough care home treated to Christmas Carols from local school children
The residents of the Manor House care home on Hambleton Grove have thanked local children for singing them carols and donating handmade Christmas decorations for their Christmas trees.
Year 2 pupils from Meadowside School, visited the Manor House Knaresborough as part of the care home’s Christmas programme of activities.
From a safe distance, the children performed several classic songs, with the residents standing outside the main entrance enjoying the music and even joining in! Local café Mama Doreen’s Emporium generously donated mince pies for the occasion for both the residents and carollers to enjoy.
In addition to the carols, the care team at The Manor House also thanked children from all over Knaresborough who had sent in their handmade Christmas decorations. Children from local schools, Girl Guide troops and people from the local community sent in their decorations, with residents having tremendous fun using them to decorate the Christmas trees inside The Manor House.
Resident Sheila Roome, 91, said it was wonderful to hear the children sing. She said:
Seeing the children singing brought a tear to my eye. I used to be a schoolteacher, and it brought back some lovely memories of singing Christmas carols with my pupils. It was wonderful to see the children and it definitely brought a smile to all of our faces.
Joanne Meredith, Activities Coordinator for The Manor House, was keen to thank the school for helping to organise the socially distanced carol concert.
We’ve always enjoyed carol concerts at The Manor House so thank you so much to Meadowside School for organising this one for us safely and securely! Our residents and my colleagues all thoroughly enjoyed the concert and it’s a chance for us to really kick off our Christmas activities. Thank you also to all the children who so kindly made us decorations for our Christmas Tree. They are all beautiful and it was such a kind gesture!
