Free fish and chips for Orchard Gardens care home residents

Local businesses recently came together to provide free fish and chips to residents of Orchard Gardens care home in Eastleigh, as part of the #DeedsEveryday challenge.

Last week, all residents of Orchard Gardens were treated to the classic British takeaway from Mike’s chippy in Riverside, Bishopstoke – all paid for through #DeedsEveryday donations. 

Orchard Gardens continually works to create strong relationships with local groups, bringing people together and enabling our residents to maintain their connections in the wider community.

Lisa Sands, Community Partnership Manager, thanked LeadsEveryday for their kind gesture. She said: 

These sorts of gestures are so nice to know they are thought of important at a time like this and really help to make us feel part of the community. Mealtimes are a major part of the residents’ day so to have the opportunity to treat them to an authentic takeaway is hugely appreciated. We even had a communal sing song afterwards - massive thanks to LeadsEveryday and to all who donated to make this possible!

The #DeedsEveryday movement was launched earlier this year by Fareham-based marketing firm LeadsEveryday, in an effort to spread some local cheer during these testing times. The first week of the challenge focused on good deeds for schoolchildren while the second week aims to bring some joy to nearby care homes.

Promoted on Facebook, a further flurry of donations came in from businesses and members of the public when #DeedsEveryday was featured in The Daily Echo and on BBC Radio Solent. 

Roger Millington, resident at Orchard Gardens, was keen to express his gratitude, saying:

Having fish and chips was always my favourite thing about going to the seaside - Monday’s supper really took me back to being a kid again! It’s really nice to know people are thinking of us at times like these.
