Our Chef of the Year shares her award winning recipes
Verity Sims was last year’s winner of our Chef of the Year competition. Verity competed against chefs from across the organisation showing off the culinary excellence and flair they deliver to our residents on a daily basis.
Throughout the competition, the chefs are judged on presentation, resident involvement in the menu, originality and demonstrated skill.
Verity took inspiration for her recipes of cream of tomato soup, chicken and ham pie and sticky toffee pudding from the residents at Dawson Lodge. She often spends time with residents talking about their favourite comfort meals and these conversations inspired her to enter and win last year’s Chef of the Year competition!
Verity has now published the recipes for others to try and has even filmed a video of herself making the dishes.
Verity is delighted to share her recipes with the public before the 2022 competition, saying:
I had so much fun coming up with these recipes and winning the Anchor Chef of the Year competition was wonderful. I’m delighted we could put the recipes online to share with everyone who might like them.
I pride myself on making recipes that the residents of Dawson Lodge will enjoy. They’re my biggest inspiration and hopefully lots of people will find out why after trying these recipes. Also, good luck to all the competitors for this year’s competition!
Mitchelle Perry, Manager of Dawson Lodge care home, said:
Verity more than deserved to be crowned last year’s Chef of the Year. Her Sticky Toffee Pudding is particularly excellent!
Verity’s recipes are a wonderful reflection of her ability as a chef and her great relationship with our residents. It’s wonderful how much time Verity spends with our residents making her recipes and now her award-winning recipes are available for all to enjoy!
Mealtimes are an important part of daily life in our care homes. Good quality home cooked food is central to ensuring residents have a positive experience.
