Royal reply – residents receive special letter from Buckingham Palace

Residents at The Manor House care home were stunned to receive a reply from the Queen in response to a card they had sent to Buckingham Palace for her Platinum Jubilee. 

To celebrate the Jubilee, residents wrote to Her Majesty congratulating her for her 70-year reign. The card was signed by many of the residents and the team at the home and was posted to Buckingham Palace during the Jubilee weekend. 

This week residents received a wonderful surprise when a letter thanking them for the lovely card came back from Buckingham Palace. The letter, written by the Queen’s Lady-in-Waiting Susan Rhodes, said that the Queen wished to thank the residents and team for their card and all their support and appreciation during this historic year. 

Gill Storey, a resident at The Manor House, said:

It’s so lovely, we never expected it in a million years! They must have gotten so many things for the Jubilee that we didn’t think they’d ever get round to even opening our card but here we are! 

We just wanted to do something nice and send Her Majesty our best wishes, but we never thought we’d hear back. Even if it’s just a letter from her staff, it’s still a very nice gesture from them and means a lot to all of us here. 

Sharon Harrison, Manager of The Manor House, said:

We all delighted to have gotten a response to our card from Buckingham Palace. It’s a surprise for sure, but a welcome one! When we asked residents how they wanted to celebrate the Jubilee, they all said how much they’d like to send Her Majesty a card thanking her for her service. It was really touching to get a response! 

We’ve put the letter pride of place in our bar area so that all visitors can see it. It really has put a smile on everybody’s face to have received it! Our priority for any activities and celebrations, like the Jubilee, is to ensure that we do something that our residents find meaningful and fulfilling. And I have to say the reply from The Palace has been a wonderful bonus on that score!
