102 year old Rene shares her experiences at Nelson Lodge care home
Irene, who prefers to be called Rene, has lived at Nelson Lodge care home, Whinfell Close in St Neots, since May 2017.
She said: “I like everything about living at Nelson Lodge. The staff are very good and never complain when I ask them to help me. I don’t have any favourites – they are all very special.
“I love the meals here. My favourite are the roast dinners. I used to love cooking and I was known for my delicious roast dinners. Having such good food at the home has kept me healthy.
“I have made a lot of new friends and it’s nice when my family and friends come to visit me.
“I like it when carers sit on my bed for a good chat. I never feel lonely because there is always someone to talk to.”
She said that she wouldn’t have been able to live on her own at her age because she is partially blind.
Rene added: “I wasn’t nervous about moving into a care home but I was nervous about making new friends. But I’m so pleased I moved in to Nelson Lodge. I didn’t regret it because I was getting too old to look after myself and I’m very happy here.”
Staff at the home know she is a big Gary Barlow fan and following their messages to him on social media, he sent Rene a tweet two years in a row for her birthday.
Irene can be contacted via Sean McCloskey or Pauline Davies from Nelson Lodge on 01480 479100.
