Victoria Court care home praised by care regulator

Victoria Court care home in Ilkeston has been classed as Good in all areas and Outstanding for caring by regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Staff at Anchor’s Victoria Court in were celebrating this week after receiving the accolade.

The home, which cares for up to 40 residents, was praised by the CQC in the recent inspection which took place on 26th February 2018. Care homes are now classed as either outstanding, good, requiring improvement or inadequate.

Home Manager Julie McLean said everyone at the home was thrilled because they had worked so hard to maintain high standards of care. 

She said: “We have worked hard to make Victoria Court a good care home but to be given such praise from the regulator is wonderful. The highlight is being given an Outstanding rating for caring. We are proud of the meals which are made from fresh seasonal ingredients and of the wide variety of meaningful activities enjoyed by our residents.

“Anchor has a specialist dementia care team so we also know how to care for people living with the condition so they lead as fulfilling a life as possible. 

“We welcome such rigorous inspections and clear ratings so older people and their families can see which homes are the best in the country. We’re so pleased to be classed as a good care home - we’ll be celebrating this success.”

The CQC inspection report, which can be found on the regulator’s website, highlighted the following examples of high standards of care at Victoria Court: “The home provided a feeling of person-centred culture, with people at the heart of the care being delivered.” A relative said, "Staff are very caring, supportive and helpful. My relative has said they wouldn't like to go anywhere else and that means a lot to us as a family."

The report also stated, “The consistent positive support and absolute commitment towards people’s care was reflected by people, relatives and visiting health professionals.”
