Maple Dene couple share romantic advice with young valentines
An older couple from Birmingham living at Maple Dene care home have offered romantic advice to young couples celebrating Valentine’s Day this week.
Americo and wife Luisa Tomaselli, who have been married for 65 years, said the secret to their marriage was to always listen to each other.
Grandfather Americo, 91, known as Tom, who has lived at Anchor’s Maple Dene care home in St Agnes Road with Luisa, 85, since November last year, said: “Our most romantic day was our wedding day and since then every day has been special. Our marriage has lasted because we love each other and my advice to young couples is to be wise and always love each other.
“Valentine’s Day is a chance to show you care for someone you love and we are still in love after 65 years of marriage.”
Tom and Luisa were married in Arpino in Italy and have two sons and four grandchildren.
They will be joining their friends at Maple Dene for a party on 12 February, the meal for which will have an Italian theme in their honour.
Maple Dene Manager Leisha Cooper said the party was part of a packed programme of activities at the care home.
She said: “This is such an exciting event. There will be lots of fun, colour and wonderful food all made from fresh seasonal ingredients. Older people have a life time of experience when it comes to love so it’s great Tom and Luisa can offer younger couples advice.
“The party is part of Maple Dene ongoing programme of interesting activities which aim to stimulate the residents physically and mentally.
“Such events are also a great occasion for residents to socialise with friends and their families.”
