Trinity Lodge care home residents take part in national cake decorating competition

Residents living at Anchor’s Trinity Lodge joined forces to take part in the cake decorating competition, as part of many other Christmas activities taking place at the home. 

Every year, the nine care homes in the region usually meet for the annual competition. And so, in order to keep traditions alive, this year’s competition used modern technology to meet virtually. 

Trinity Lodge’s best cake decorators carefully decorated a sponge cake in a suitably festive manner. And while competition was particularly fierce this year, Trinity Lodge managed to secure third place. 

Resident Joyce Robinson, 82, said how much fun the competition was: 

I enjoyed helping decorate the cake for this year’s competition and thought it was marvellous that we could link up on the screen with other homes to see their cakes, although I think we should have won!

Joyce is also looking forward to the other festive activities planned by Trinity Lodge. She said:

Christmas is all about family and this year is going to be different, but Trinity Lodge is bringing us so much joy and making this as special as they can for us. I appreciate everything they are doing so much.

Trinity Lodge manager Kim Slade said:

Activities such as baking and cake decorating are firm favourites among the residents here so it’s exciting that we were able to have this competition. Residents are definitely in the Christmas spirit despite the circumstances. While the cake decorating is an important part of our festivities we’re also looking forward to celebrating with virtual pantomimes, carol singing and ceiling decorations.
