Local Retirement Community Celebrates Summer with Garden Party
Anchor Hanover’s Hurst Place retirement community in Haywards Heath made the most of the warmer days by holding a Summer garden party this week. A marquee was set up in the garden with balloons and flags to create a celebratory atmosphere for the occasion.
Residents and guests sipped summery tipples while enjoying a barbeque including summertime favourites such as burgers, vegetable skewers and grilled chicken. To support local businesses after a challenging 18 months, food was served by Relish Café located in Henfield who source all their produce locally. Throughout the afternoon, many attendees enjoyed a dance or two with entertainment provided by professional singer Tania Rodd.
The event was a much-welcomed opportunity for residents to get together as community activities were paused due to coronavirus restrictions. A number of visitors were also able to safely explore the lifestyle on offer at Hurst Place retirement community while getting a taste of the community and first-class facilities.
Local resident, Christine Oliver, who has lived at Hurst Place retirement community for five years, welcomed the party and the chance to spend time with neighbours and friends. She said:
The food was amazing and entertainment superb. The event was just what we needed to re-establish the friendliness of Hurst Place after the challenges of the last 18 months.
The occasion was also used by residents to recognise the additional help provided by the Anchor Hanover team throughout the pandemic including door to door deliveries, lunch service and additional wellbeing calls. Residents presented the team with gifts and flowers to express their gratitude for the increased support. Outam Kangalee, Manager of Hurst Place retirement community, said:
Our residents enjoy the vibrant community and active lifestyle on offer at Hurst Place. At Anchor Hanover, we pride ourselves on uniting people through a shared community spirit and we wanted to create a fun and social gathering in a safe setting to do so. We thought a garden party would be the perfect way to bring everyone together and celebrate summer.
It was great to see everyone together again and I definitely think the event boosted spirits!
