Schoolchildren and residents from a care home in Barnsley will be painting views of the town as part of a nationwide celebration of the care sector.
Anchor’s Oakwood Grange care home in Oakwood Road will be participating in Care Home Open Day (CHOD) on Friday 28 June, along with thousands of care homes across the country.
This year’s theme is the arts, and Oakwood Grange residents and Year Six pupils from Parkside Primary School will attend a joint arts and crafts session to paint the local landscapes which will be displayed in the school and the care home.
Later in the day, the residents, schoolchildren and members of the local community have been invited to an afternoon tea party.
Home Manager Jodi Harris said: “People don’t realise how we transform older people’s lives for the better here so Care Home Open Day is the chance for people to find out what a care home is really like.
“For many people, the first time they come into contact with the care sector is when their relative can’t cope living in their home. Our doors are always open to people but we hope CHOD will be the opportunity the local community to visit us so we can answer their questions.
“They can also join in the fun activities on the day which we regularly organise for our residents to improve their mental and physical well-being.”
