Mayflower Court care home takes part in national celebration

Residents and guests at a care home in Southampton will be planting flowers in baskets and taking part in exercises as part of a nationwide celebration. 

Anchor’s Mayflower Court care home in Westwood Road will be participating in Care Home Open Day (CHOD) on Friday 28 June, along with thousands of care homes across the country. 

This year’s theme is the arts, and the Horticulatural Therapy session is part of the events on the day. The sessions deliver therapeutic gardeneing and craft activities with a focus for people living with dementia and stroke recovery patients.
 
The residents and guests can then join in a special Oomph exercise session before tucking into a cream tea to round off the day of activities.

Home Manager Sue Hayes said: “People don’t realise how we transform older people’s lives for the better so Care Home Open Day is the chance for people to find out what a care home is really like.

Often the first time people have contact with the care sector is when a loved one needs assistance as no longer able to continue to live in their own homes.
COHD gives everyone the opportunity to come and visit us so they can experience first hand what we do and to answer any quastions.

“They can also join in the fun activities on the day which we regularly organise for our customers to improve their mental and physical well-being.”
