Schoolchildren and guests visiting a care home in Hadleigh will enjoy painting and craft sessions as part of a nationwide celebration.
Anchor’s Canterbury House care home in Gallows Hill will be participating in Care Home Open Day (CHOD) on Friday 28 June, along with thousands of care homes across the country.
This year’s theme is the arts and Canterbury House resident Colin King will be helping 21 pupils from Beaumont Primary School with a painting session.
The children and other guests will take part in a crafts session where they will draw round their hand, cut it out and each handprint will be placed on a ribbon to form bunting which will be hung over the home’s entrance.
The children and guests will then be treated to a barbecue. To round off the day, guests and residents are invited to the home’s bespoke 18-seater cinema with full screen for the showing of the Florence Foster Jenkins film, which starred Meryl Streep.
Home Manager Gerard Balo said: “People don’t realise how we transform older people’s lives for the better here so Care Home Open Day is the chance for people to find out what a care home is really like.
“For many people, the first time they come into contact with the care sector is when their relative can’t cope living in their home. Our doors are always open to people but we hope CHOD will be the opportunity the local community to visit us so we can answer their questions.
“They can also join in the fun activities on the day which we regularly organise for our residents to improve their mental and physical well-being.”
