A care home in Chichester is holding a Dementia Seminar so members of the public can find out more about the condition.

Mark Harrison, Dementia Specialist, will be speaking about living and coping with dementia at the ‘Understanding Dementia Seminar’ on Wednesday 27th November from 2 till 4 pm.

Mark Harrison has been working with people living with dementia for over 25 years.

As a Peripatetic Dementia Specialist, he has delivered public and private Dementia Seminars, Staff Training, Management, Consultancy, developed dementia friendly environments and was instrumental in developing companies dementia striates and the development of group and bespoke training packages.  Mark is also a, Dr Gemma Jones qualified Dementia Café Organiser, a Bradford University Dementia Care Mapper and won a company award for Meaningful Engagement for People Living with Dementia.  

As an advocate for the improved understanding of dementia, Mark participates in forums and has been a guest speaker at national events and has spoken at Oxford University Green Templeton’s College, London’s Haberdashers Hall, Birmingham and Sussex to name but a few.  The Care Home Catering magazine published his article on Dementia and the Mealtime Experience entitled, “Cues and Clues.”  Mark has also participated in the Dementia Discussion panels answering questions about dementia.

Topics covered on the day will include;

•    The early signs of Alzheimer’s 
•    Five common types of dementia
•    The brain, our memories and reality 
•    Distressed behaviours and coping strategies 
•    Communication what to do what not to do 
•    Therapies that work

There will also be the opportunity for a Q&A with Mark after the presentation.
