Anchor voices ring out at the House of Lords
Residents from Denham Garden Village-(New Anchor URLTBC) travelled to the House of Lords for an awe inspiring performance as the Anchor Community Band this week.
The 15 strong choir gave their best performance yet at Anchor’s Chairman’s Reception, to mark the 45th anniversary of England’s largest not for profit provider of housing and care to the over 55s. The event was attended by Anchor Chief Executive, Jane Ashcroft, Baroness Greengross and marked the appointment of Pamela Chesters as Anchor’s new Chair Designate.
Activity Coordinator and Anchor Community Band manager Carl Martin said: “Performing at the House of Lords has been our biggest performance to date. It’s such an honour to be invited to sing for Anchor’s 45 birthday celebrations. The band sang their classic hit ‘See Yourself’ as well as Adele’s Oscar winning Skyfall and The Wonder of You, after which there wasn’t a dry eye in the room!”
Denham Garden Village resident and Anchor Community Band member, Irene Griffiths, 83, said: “We are all very excited to have had the opportunity to perform at the House of Lords. We are incredibly lucky to live in such a lovely community and are able to do things we couldn’t possibly do if we didn’t live at Denham Garden Village.”
Anchor Chief Executive Jane Ashcroft said: “It is always a delight to see the Anchor Community Band perform, even more so for Anchor’s 45th birthday. This performance shows what we are about ‘happy living for the years ahead’.”
The Anchor Community Band was set up earlier this year to raise money for national charity Contact The Elderly, by releasing its first single, ‘See Yourself’ which was written and recorded by over 350 older people. The single was released in June and reached number 17 in the indie chart. Since recording the song the Anchor Community Band, of whom many live at Anchor’s Denham Garden Village in Buckingham, have been in high demand, also performing at the National Association for Providers of Activities for older people Gala and West Hall care home in Surrey-(New Anchor URL TBC).
