Keeping your home warm and healthy
We’re making improvements to homes to help keep them warmer, more comfortable and more energy efficient. As part of this work, it’s important that homes continue to have good ventilation.
Improvements such as better insulation, upgraded heating systems and reduced draughts can help lower energy bills and improve comfort. However, when homes become more airtight, moisture and stale air can become trapped indoors.
Everyday activities such as cooking, showering, drying clothes and even breathing create moisture. Without enough ventilation, moisture can build up and lead to condensation, damp and mould. Fresh air circulation helps protect both your health and your home.
What we’re doing
Our retrofit programme focuses on homes where improvements are needed most. Alongside insulation and heating upgrades, we’re installing or improving extractor fans and ventilation systems where needed. These improvements help reduce moisture, improve airflow and create a healthier living environment.
This work is especially important as social landlords must meet the requirements of Awaab’s Law, which introduces clear timescales for investigating and resolving damp and mould issues.
We’re committed to providing homes that are warmer, healthier and more energy efficient. Good ventilation is a vital part of this. Ventilation systems, extractor fans and air vents need to be properly installed and maintained so that energy efficiency improvements do not affect a home’s ability to breathe.
How you can help
You can help keep your home healthy by:
- Keeping vents clear – never block or cover air vents or air bricks.
- Using extractor fans – switch them on when cooking, bathing or showering.
- Reporting problems early – tell your location manager as soon as you notice damp, mould or issues with ventilation.
By working together, we can help make sure homes stay warm, comfortable and healthy for years to come.
