Air fryer safety in your kitchen
Air fryers are a great way to prepare meals, but it's important to use them safely. Taking a few simple steps can help prevent accidents and keep your kitchen safe.
Where should you keep your air fryer?
- Place your air fryer on a flat, stable worktop. Avoid putting it on a table or on top of a hob.
- Keep it away from anything that could be damaged by heat, such as tea towels, food packaging and other appliances.
- Leave at least 15cm (6 inches) of space behind the appliance so air can circulate properly.
- Pull it forward from underneath kitchen cupboards when in use. Hot air and grease can damage cupboards over time.
- If possible, use it near an extractor fan or vent to help remove heat and cooking odours. However, never place it on a hob.
- Always plug your air fryer directly into a wall socket. Do not use extension leads or multi-socket adaptors.
Keep it clean and well maintained
Regular cleaning helps your air fryer work safely and efficiently. Follow the manufacturer's cleaning instructions and allow the appliance to cool before cleaning.
Please do not follow social media trends that suggest adding water to the tray and switching the air fryer on to clean it. This can be dangerous and has led to fires.
A few simple precautions can help you enjoy your air fryer safely and confidently.
