Our retirement properties to rent offer affordable and well-maintained apartments. Your home will be completely self-contained, with your own front door, and equipped with fully-fitted kitchen units. You will have the opportunity to make it your own by changing the décor to suit your personal taste if you choose.

Each rental location is supported by an experienced manager who takes care of building maintenance and gardening and will provide you with information and support when needed. Living with Anchor you will no longer have to worry about day-to-day matters such as external building maintenance, gardening, building insurance or window cleaning, leaving you free to enjoy the things that matter most to you.

In addition to our managers, all our rental properties are supported by Anchor on Call, a 24-hour emergency call telephone alarm system and secure door entry system. Installed in your new home, Anchor on Call will allow you to call for help whenever you need it, whether that be help summoning emergency services assistance, an emergency repair or advice and reassurance.

Thank you Ruth at Greenside Court!

My nana was originally from Thorney Close in Sunderland but moved to Durham over 30 years ago. My Dad is her only child, so we are a small but close family. Following the passing of my Grandad 10 years ago, we had been keen to get Nana back to Sunderland to be close to her family. However, she was adamant she was happy where she was.

As the years have passed, Nana now has reduced mobility and needs more support from her family and although she will be 90 in May she is fiercely independent. At the end of 2022, Nana finally agreed that moving ‘back home’ would be a good idea so we contacted the local councils.

Unfortunately, the housing situation did not work out with the councils on this particular occasion. We decided to try and think of other options and sheltered accommodation was discussed but we didn’t think Nana would agree. This was due to our own ignorance of what exactly sheltered accommodation was, then a friend mentioned Greenside Court.

Living in Thorney Close, we had passed this building so many times but never realised exactly what it was. I arranged for my brother and I to have a look round. The manager, Ruth, was very welcoming and explained exactly what Greenside Court had to offer being an independent living building and allowing pets, as Nana will go nowhere without her dog, Molly.

We arranged for Nana to have a viewing that same week as there was a studio flat available. The morning of the viewing was the resident’s weekly coffee morning. This meant Nana was greeted by lots of friendly faces including family members of some of the residents. Everyone made Nana and us as a family feel very welcome.

Nana loved the studio flat as it is just the right size for her to manage on her own. She instantly agreed this was right for her. We approached Ruth and explained Nana would like to move into Greenside Court. Ruth set the ball rolling and amazingly Nana was in her new home within 2 weeks of viewing the property.

Nana has only been there a week but has already made friends. Everyone is so friendly and Ruth has been amazing. Nothing has been too much trouble and she has helped us with all aspects of Nana’s move. Molly has also settled in well; she now has lots of company and enjoys her treats from Ruth every time we pass her office.
