Caring pensioner wins national award for neighbourliness
A tenant from Eagle Lodge in Wanstead in Greater London has won an award for being an excellent neighbour.
Raymond Martin, who lives at Anchor’s Eagle Lodge in Snaresbrook Road was nominated by Daphne Johnson, for always putting his neighbours needs before his own.
Almost 200 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider. The awards were launched in August with six categories: Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Extraordinary Talent, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.
Raymond Martin, who has lived at Eagle Lodge, is thrilled to receive the Best Neighbour Award. He said: “I’m speechless, to be honest. It’s lovely to be appreciated. I don’t know what to say, it’s just shock to have won this award.
“I help others because I want to do it and I enjoy it. It’s absolutely lovely.”
Daphne Johnson, who nominated Raymond, said: “Raymond always goes the extra mile to help others. Thank you on everyone’s behalf to Raymond. He is reliable, fun and respectful to be around. I am so pleased to hear he has won he truly deserves it.”
