Oakleigh care home takes part in national celebration

Residents from a care home in Godstone will be joined by 20 primary schoolchildren for a special arts and crafts session as part of a nationwide celebration.

Anchor’s Oakleigh care home in Evelyn Gardens will be participating in Care Home Open Day (CHOD) on Friday 28 June, along with thousands of care homes across the country. 

This year’s theme is the arts, and Oakleigh has organised for the pupils, aged three to 11, from Bletchingley Village Primary School in Coneybury, to create works of art with the residents on the day. The children will also be showcasing the artwork they have previously done at school in the home.

Home Manager Tabitha Harrison-Lyons said: “People don’t realise how we transform older people’s lives for the better here so Care Home Open Day is the chance for people to find out what a care home is really like.

“For many people, the first time they come into contact with the care sector is when their relative is finding it hard living in their own home. Our doors are always open to people but we hope CHOD will be the opportunity for the local community to visit us so we can answer their questions.

“They can also join in the fun activities on the day which we regularly organise for our residents to improve their mental and physical well-being. We’re particularly looking forward to having the children take part in the arts session.”
