Residents from a care home in Caterham will be working on a nature-themed collage to be displayed in the lounge as part of a nationwide celebration of the care sector.
Anchor’s Elizabeth Court care home in Grenadier Place will be participating in Care Home Open Day (CHOD) on Friday 28 June, along with thousands of care homes across the country.
This year’s theme is the arts, and staff and residents from Elizabeth Court will be painting and drawing the collage while also demonstrating how to use a Tovertafel which projects images onto a table which residents can interact with.
Staff are bringing in their pet dogs and Pat Dogs will also be visiting so that residents can make a fuss of the dogs.
Home Manager Sue Guyon said: “People don’t realise how we transform older people’s lives for the better here so Care Home Open Day is the chance for people to find out what a care home is really like.
“For many people, the first time they come into contact with the care sector is when their relative can’t cope living in their home. Our doors are always open to people but we hope CHOD will be the opportunity the local community to visit us so we can answer their questions.
“They can also join in the fun activities on the day which we regularly organise for our residents to improve their mental and physical well-being.”
