A care home in Rotherham will be opening a traditional pub for its residents as part of a nationwide celebration of the care sector.
Anchor’s Dearne Hall in Ringway, Bolton-upon-Dearne, will be participating in Care Home Open Day (CHOD) on Friday 28 June, along with thousands of care homes across the country.
Staff have spent weeks decorating and wallpapering the foyer area on the second floor to transform it into a traditional pub for its residents. Local pubs have helped by donating traditional pub tables and chairs.
Residents and staff will use the pub for activities, such as dominoes and cards, whilst sipping their favourite tipple. The home also plan to hold special events in the pub for the residents.
The local community are invited to join in the official opening ceremony at 6pm during which entertainer Paul Barrie will serenade the pub goers.
Deputy Manager Hannah Beardsley said the pub was an important addition to the Dearne Hall’s activities programme as many residents would have enjoyed going to the pub before moving into the home.
Hannah added: “People don’t realise how we transform older people’s lives for the better here so Care Home Open Day is the chance for people to find out what a care home is really like.
“For many people, the first time they come into contact with the care sector is when their relative can’t cope living in their home. Our doors are always open to people but we hope CHOD will be the opportunity the local community to visit us so we can answer their questions.
“They can also join in the fun activities on the day which we regularly organise for our residents to improve their mental and physical well-being.”
