Green Goddess inspires care home residents with bespoke workout programme

Diana Moran, Anchor Hanover and Shackleton’s have collaborated on a series of chair-based workouts for the residents of Anchor in lockdown.

The Green Goddess80-year-old fitness sensation Diana Moran, best known as the Green Goddess, is bringing joy and motivation to residents at Anchor Hanover care homes during the coronavirus pandemic, with a bespoke chair-based workout programme.

Determined to keep spirits up, Diana Moran, Anchor Hanover and healthcare furniture specialists Shackleton’s have collaborated to launch the workouts for Anchor Hanover care home residents. The exercises created by Diana include shoulder circles, leg stretches and chair squats.

Residents across Anchor Hanover, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of care and housing for people in later life, received a memorable surprise this week when the 80’s fitness star popped up on their TV screens, to wish them well and guide them through the workouts. Since then, Anchor Hanover’s dedicated colleagues across the country have been encouraging residents to try the workouts.

Diana Moran, probably better known as The Green Goddess, introduced fitness to the UK in the 1980’s on BBC’s Breakfast Time. Ever since then, the fitness icon has been encouraging people of all ages to exercise, to boost fitness levels and improve mental wellbeing. Now in her 80s, Diana continues to inspire older people to stay active.

The Green GoddessSpeaking about the videos, Diana Moran, who is also Shackleton’s Health and Wellbeing Advisor, says:

“We all need to find ways to stay positive and active during lockdown. Being in a care home does not mean we need to give up on a healthy lifestyle, and I hope my videos inspire Anchor care homes residents to stay active. I’m delighted that Anchor Hanover care homes will be using this exercise workout across all their settings and bringing residents together to keep active.”

Cath Holmes, Service Improvement Manager at Anchor Hanover, says:

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Shackleton’s and Diana Moran to launch these workouts. The physical and mental wellbeing of older people across the country is paramount and we’re constantly looking for new and innovative ways to keep residents engaged. The workouts have been really well received by residents as they’re fun and helping to keep people motivated during this challenging time.”

The Green GoddessGladys Birtwistle, age 81, is a resident at Anchor’s Townend Close care home. She said:

"I have really enjoyed seeing the Green Goddess back on the screen, as I remember her being on breakfast TV. I found the exercises really easy to follow and it was great that I could do these in my chair. I feel so much better after doing some exercise."

Joseph Ullmann, Sales Director at Shackletons, says:

“Anchor Hanover has been a major customer for many years. The opportunity for us to support their residents, together with our health and wellness advisor Diana Moran, is a privilege for us and we are delighted that residents are enjoying the exercise videos.”
