Chatty benches are springing up all over the country in a bid to combat loneliness and reduce social isolation.
Colourful signs are being added to both existing and newly installed benches to show that by sitting on them, a person is happy to chat with whoever comes and sits next to them.
This simple idea aims to create more opportunities for people to get talking face to face. The chatty bench plaques act as a talking point and encourage those who see them to reach out and spark up conversations with the people around them.
Conversation starter ideas
We know that starting conversations can sometimes be hard, so we have put together a fun conversation menu of light-hearted questions to help you get talking, find some common ground and build rapport with the new people you meet.
